I’m not sure how many times I’ve heard others say The Promise is one of their favorite songs. It’s a good track to me, but prefer others. It’s one of those medium tempo tracks that didn’t exactly connect with me. But for those others, I’m guessing it has more to deal with its lyrics, as they are about friendship and/or relationships.

If you need a friend, don’t look to a stranger.
You know in the end, I’ll always be there.
But when you’re in doubt, and when you’re in danger.
Take a look all around, and I’ll be there.

CHORUS:
I’m sorry, but I’m just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don’t sound the way I planned them to be.
But if you wait around awhile, I’ll make you fall for me.
I promise, I promise you I will.

When your day is through, and so is your temper.
You know what to do. I’m gonna always be there.
Sometimes if I shout, it’s not what’s intended.
These words just come out with no gripe to bear.

I stumbled on the Razormaid remix for The Promise, which had some interesting treatments to the beat and rhythm. A little unexpected to hear, but once I heard the earlier breakpoint, it seemed like a great transition to feature. When mixing Halo-Halo Vol.2, I found a good time to use this and included the track as a nod to my late friend/cousin/sister, Krystine. She’s one of the many who mentioned this as a favorite previously.
