I mentioned before about influences, but always considered three individuals that had the most. There’s VMC, JD is another, and the third is a family friend of ours, Vince Magsino. He and his brothers all know how to mix, and that was always cool with me (Shout out to all of you).

They always did our association’s parties, and early on, wasn’t aware of their involvement in the broader party scene throughout the city. Being an avid listener of Energy 88.7, I was surprised to learn that he and Vergil were mixing on the Guest DJ Spotlight.

If I recall correctly, Vince was featured a bit more. Correct me if I’m wrong. But I began to notice his techniques, and the way he compressed mixes into half hour segments. His editing and transitions were as good as anyone’s, if not better. New Wave/Synthpop is a different breed of mixing, and I just couldn’t believe some of his transitions that I heard. I wouldn’t have guessed to mix what he did. When anyone does things like that, it’s easy to notice.

Much of his techniques were adopted for my own, borrowing a transition or two as a subtle tribute. Listen carefully, and you’ll notice the similarities. I know I have three of his broadcasts around, but converted two; I’ll have to search for the third. They’re as classic as any New Wave mix you’ll ever get.

Side plug: Vince does a fine job with Magsino Mobile Entertainment handling occasions, like weddings and parties. They’ve done a number of weddings for friends and family, and one of a few groups that I won’t hesitate to recommend.
